I recently received an invitation from StyleSpy to attend the Yaletown Summer Shopathon. Basically the idea is to head down to Yaletown for a day of fabulous shopping...picking up those hot summer fashions, wicked discounts & specials from over 40 stores. There are also prizes to be won, cocktails and drinks availeble and free swag. This includes 250 free swag bags with product, samples & coupons and they are actually throwing in a few pairs of J BRAND jeans randomly into the bags (Yes, free jeans)! A complimentary Thai Sangria Cocktail is also available from Charm Modern Thai (between 5:30-7:30pm) if you RSVP in advance.
What a disappointment. Friends and I finished work early to attend this event and got there early. It turns out many had the same idea and a lot of time on their hands. The event started at 3pm, the lineup was over the 250 swag bag limit at 1pm. Because the invites went out in mass emails, there was no common ground like in previous shopping events I had been to, people were pushy and all about getting their bag...even if it meant elbowing you and stomping on toes. Not cool.
I have spent the last ten years living in Toronto in various areas of the city and recently made the move out to the mountains of BC. My major philosophy in life is: Turn your face to the sun, and let the shadows fall behind you.
Come on out ladies, this promises to be lots of fun!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun! I will be there!

ReplyDeleteI agree, it felt very impersonal and more like we were going to a tug-o-war sample sale than a social event.
